PETALING JAYA: G. Kumar Aamaan, the MIC Central Working Committee (CWC) member who called for party president Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu’s early resignation, says he has not done anything wrong by expressing the sentiments of the Indian community.
He said he was only speaking out against Samy Vellu, whom he described as an “outdated” leader who treated the MIC as his own political organisation.
Kumar said he had become a victim in his support for deputy Youth chief V. Mugilan, who had asked Samy Vellu to resign as president.
He added that it was unbecoming of Samy Vellu to accuse him of working against the MIC because he was only voicing out his opinion.
“Whatever accusations the president made against me are based on his emotions and tantrums.
“I’m willing to face whatever action that comes because I’m doing this for the people. The MIC is not ‘My Indian Congress’ as what is being practised by Samy Vellu,” he said at a press conference here yesterday.
Kumar said Samy Vellu’s “favoured” delegates are afraid to go against their leader because such moves would affect their rice bowl.
By shutting Mugilan out, he said, they had forgotten the interests of the Indian community and the reason the MIC was formed.
Kumar also criticised Samy Vellu for appointing his son Vell Paari as a CWC member, which showed that the president practised nepotism.
“Vell Paari never contested for any post but he is there because of his father,” he added.
K. P. Samy, another CWC member who also called for Samy Vellu’s resignation in a telephone interview yesterday, said it was not true that he had attended an opposition function last November as claimed by a senior MIC official and clarified that he had actually attended an anti-Samy Vellu event.
He added that he had contributed to the party for 37 years and had supported many MIC projects.
“My track record has been proven when I won against the endorsed candidates for the CWC line-up from 1994 to 2000, and I was Kota Raja branch head for three terms,” he said
Keep your words and show in action but keep to your vow and promises. The Rakyat is watching the new game. They will remember on the day of judgment and make their vote to where it suppose to be. Good luck for the brave move.
