Sacking of Mugilan unfair, says Tengku Adnan

PUTRAJAYA: Barisan Nasional secretary-general Datuk Seri Tengku Adnan Mansor has voiced his unhappiness over the sacking of MIC deputy youth leader V.Mugilan on claims the latter had worked against the coalition during the recent Hulu Selangor by-election.

Tengku Adnan maintained this was his personal opinion.

He added he was surprised to learn that Mugilan was sacked because the latter supposedly did not support Barisan candidate, P. Kamalanathan.

Tengku Adnan said he was willing to personally vouch for Mugilan and that the former Hulu Selangor MIC Youth chief had worked hard to help Barisan win by-election.

“I met with Palanivel (MIC deputy president Datuk G.Palanivel) this morning and told him I am upset with the sacking. This is is my personal view, not the Barisan Nasional's. The treatment received by Mugilan is unfair.

“I told him I did not mean to meddle in the affair of the party, but this (the sacking) should not happen, if he was sacked just because he was claimed to be not supporting the candidate,” he told reporters after attending the Anggerik Umno branch meeting in Precinct 8 here yesterday.

Tengku Adnan said Mugilan had done his part in the by-election and that the young man had the potential to become a good future leader for the Indian community.

“We should not take harsh action against someone just for offending us - we should find ways to settle such problems without making them worse,” he said.

Mugilan was sacked on Thursday after calling for Samy Vellu to step down as soon as possible ahead of the planned exit next September.
