MIC Secretary-General Questions Samy Vellu's Sacking Of CWC Members

PETALING JAYA, May 28 (Bernama) -- MIC secretary-general S. Murugesan Friday openly questioned Datuk Seri S. Samy Vellu's sacking of four members of the party's all powerful central working committee (CWC) who had criticised the president.

Murugesan, who is also an elected member of the CWC, said their expulsion should not have been the first resort but the last and that the four should have been given an opportunity to be heard.

"I as the secretary-general have a responsibility to all MIC members to ensure democratic principles in the party are strengthened, not threatened.

"As such, I have taken the decision to voice out my stand on the expulsions and wish to state that I do not agree with presidential powers being used to sack CWC members without the people involved first being given a chance to be heard by MIC's disciplinary committee," he told a press conference here Friday.

Murugesan was referring to the recent sacking by Samy Vellu, who has been president of MIC since 1979, of four CWC members - K.P. Samy, G. Kumar Amaan, MIC Youth deputy chief V. Mugilan and V. Subramaniam, after they demanded that he quit immediately as president.

Murugesan stressed that his action in questioning their sacking was not meant to apply pressure on Samy Vellu to step down and that he was not taking any side in the matter.

"I am not here to argue about the tenure of the current president nor the merit in the argument in asking him to step down. What I am against is the use of presidential powers to expel a member, even elected CWC members for asking him to step down earlier than his announced retirement date.

"The presidential powers of expulsion should be used as the last resort and not the first option. Now the Indian community and the nation is watching us. We are sending wrong signals to Indian youths who might be interested to join the party," he said, adding that he was prepared to face the consequences in calling this press conference.

He denied that he was supporting the Gerakan Anti-Samy Velly (GAS) movement spearheaded by Mugilan to get the president to step down without delay and not wait until September next year to do so, as had been announced by Samy Vellu.

  1. No need to save the community from the Dictator?? As I can see everyone are chasing their own desires. If he step down the new leader would be take care of his friends and family. There was never the community. If each community can think to upgrade themselves FIRST and save their own family FIRST, many Indians would came up in life. Don’t tell Indians are been forced to be poor or there are neglected by the government. Many Indians from those times till now have come up in life that is because they tried very hard. My concern is if every girls and boys start thinking of upgrading themselves by getting education to University/Diploma/Cert Level and help their family. Every family would be relieved from poverty. Please look at Chinese, they were small like us once but they work hard and they got the money, and suddenly they had many ministers in Parlimen but we have only 1 or 2. We need to get ourselves the knowledge and the money before go to politics. So think of ourselves and study hard and get a good job, help yourself and your family, later help the community. Then we do not need to depend on government. Do you know most of Chinese do not rely government money, all the parents donation are sufficient enough. We must make it to their level one day. We must stop all this and start to think what we can do upgrade ourselves. All Indian friends think for a moment. We gather around for few hours talking about all the bad deeds and asked to Samy Vellu to resign, will he step down that easy??? He has the power now, so don’t waste time. Wake up and work hard, use the time wisely. The fight is between MIC family fight, today they will fight but the next day they will ok and together but the person who is left behind is community. All the politicians has the same perspective and same goals as the others. There won’t many changes even if he step down it only political advantage. Think friends bc many used us and stopped us from thinking. I know most would won’t agrees with me. But I’m sure there won’t drastic changes in community even if new leader in MIC. Thank you ppl.

    From,
    Anniyan

  3. Dear Mugilan, I was not able to attend the GAS but I sure want to cast my vote officially. I am willing to provide my complete IC number, Full Name and address a short message why I feel Samy Vellu should step down!

PLEASE PROVIDE US A SPACE TO EMAIL YOU OR SOMEONE OFFICIAL IN THE PRIME MINISTER'S DEPARTMENT THAT WE SERIOUSLY WISH FOR A REFORM IN MIC. Even the blog shall do, as long as ppl voice out in a proper manner.

I am not an MIC member but did not want to join MIC because seriously its a failure with Dictator still in. You know the young generations have no time to see failures in leadership, we often want to see a reform towards efficient management. And if the older generation don't understand us, we may seem to not bother to voice out at all. Seriously, most young Indians are not aware of their rights, and this need to be addressed for the benefit of Indians in the long run.

TRUST ME, MANY PEOPLE WHO COULD NOT ATTEND GAS OR THREATHENED TO ATTEND IT MAY BE ABLE TO VOICE IT FREELY TO OUR PM OR YOU ON OUR DETAILS AND OUR MESSAGE TO GET SAMY OFF THE SEAT.

To vote online is a good idea. But to scrutinise better, I think people will be free to voice it over email or a site on their names and a short message on why a reform is needed in leadership of the PARTY.

Thanks. I TRULY WISH FOR A REFORM IN MIC, even though I was not able to attend it.
